Recipe: Split Pea Soup

One of my favorite soups is homemade split pea, it’s a winter warmer that can’t be beat. I can’t stand the stuff in the can, but I love this recipe, which uses grated carrot and maple syrup for flavor, both of which give it a sweet finish.

Hibernation

I’ve been awfully quiet this month.  Here in the northeast it’s snowing…again.  Funny how as a child I thought it was awesome, but now as an adult it seems it’s just a big hassle.  Digging out the walk and the car, dealing with snow damage, slogging through slush and trying to drive on snow packed…

Recipe: Sin-Sational Drinking Chocolate

I have never been a fan of cocoa packets added to boiling water. It’s a commercial concoction with so little in common with the original chocolate drink brought over to Europe from South America. While I don’t like spicy at all, so I’ll avoid the original chocolate with ground chili peppers, I think hot chocolate should be an experience that a chocolate lover can truly love.

2010 In Review

The New Year is a time of both reflection and of looking ahead. Many people choose to create plans and resolutions with how to be better in the new year. Frugality is the Mother of Creativity

I realized this week I have little to no money for holiday gifts this year. While I did good by setting money aside in a special account for the past few months to cover our Christmas Eve “feast of the seven fishes” traditional dinner, I did not specifically set aside gift money, so with the loss of our second income, there is none.
