Life In Progress

Sometimes in life there just doesn’t seem to be anything getting accomplished.  The past few weeks I haven’t thought of anything I thought worthy of posting, nothing I can point to and say “I did that!”

My vanilla experiment is 3 weeks in, and I shake the jars once a week.  They’re pretty dark now.  Only 9 more weeks to go before I get to see how it turned out.  They sit up in the cabinet with the popcorn and the spices and dish cloths, so I open that at least once every day or so and don’t forget to shake on the weekends.

I’m working on redecorating my office.  I have two walls repaired and painted, and my little closet nook now has nice poplar shelves to hold all the computer equipment.  This weekend I’ll find some nice curtain fabric to cover the front and the windows, and hopefully get to the third wall.  After that there’s one wall, the ceiling, and a very nice arts-and-crafts era stencil to go.  Most of this week was taken up with getting the shelves done and all the computer equipment set up, so I’m falling a little behind in my wall-a-week goal.

Everything I do tends to be done a minute here, and a minute there.  This is fine usually, but sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be anything that’s getting FINISHED.  It’s easy to get discouraged, but I try to take a step back and look at the small progress.  A wall patched and painted, a shelf spiffily built, a bottle of darkening liquid, a finished single of handspun on the lazy kate waiting to be plied.  They’re all things moving towards completion, progress towards a goal.  And someday soon I’ll be able to come back and talk about the completion.
